A 13-year-old male juvenile is in custody tonight after firing upon responding deputies.

Deputies were called to a residence in the 5000 block of STH 35 in the Town of Superior at about 4:35pm for a report of an out of control juvenile throwing and breaking things.

The first responding deputy met the suspect on the back porch and the suspect told the deputy that the deputy would have to shoot him.  The suspect retreated into the house and quickly re-emerged with a long gun.  The deputy took cover around a corner and a shot rang out.  The deputy took the reporting person away from the scene and then covered the house.  Other responding deputies took up positions around the house.  Over the course of the next hour the suspect emerged from the house and fired the gun in the direction of deputies at least four times.  One deputy heard a shot go over his head.

The suspect came out of the house without the gun and was seen entering a garage.  He emerged from the garage wearing a black tactical vest.  He was taken into custody at that time.

No injuries were reported in this incident.  The Town of Superior VFD provided stand-by as did Mayo Ambulance.  Sheriff Izzard commends the responding deputies, especially Deputies Fossum, Newton and Sgt. Knutson for their professionalism in bringing about a peaceful conclusion to what could have been a tragic outcome.
