SUPERIOR RESIDENT SENTENCED TO 25 YEARS FOR MANUFACTURING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY

06/30/2015

MADISON, WIS. -- John W. Vaudreuil, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Leroy Bond, 42, Superior, Wis., was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge James Peterson to 25 years in federal prison for manufacturing child pornography. This prison term will be followed by a life-time period of supervised release. Bond pleaded guilty to this charge on January 30, 2015.

In October 2014, law enforcement officers in Superior arrested Leroy Bond for sexual assault of a minor. Bond was interviewed and admitted the sexual assault. He also admitted to sexually assaulting another minor and said he took naked pictures of that victim with his phone. Law enforcement agents analyzed Bond’s phone and found that he took sexually explicit pictures of three different children.

In sentencing Bond, Judge Peterson found that Bond was a continuing danger to the community because he engaged in an extended course of conduct in which he preyed upon four young girls. Judge Peterson said Bond’s crimes warranted severe punishment because Bond presented a risk of re-offending.

The charge against Bond was the result of an investigation conducted by the Superior Police Department; Douglas County Sheriff’s Department; Lake Superior Forensic Technology & Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force; and Federal Bureau of Investigation. The prosecution of the case has been handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
