59 yr old Deborah Otier, Solon Springs, was killed when she was struck by a train while walking with her dog in downtown Solon Springs Monday evening.

The accident was reported at about 6:15pm at the CTH A intersection with the CN tracks, just east of Business 53.

Witnesses reported the woman left the grocery store and walked west until reaching the tracks where the stop arms were extended and the lights and bells were active.  She apparently walked around the back side of the stop arms and was struck by the oncoming train.  She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the CN Railroad Police.
