On August 2, 2023 at about 11:15pm, Douglas County 911 received a call from a female reporting her friends ex-boyfriend tried to run them off the road and shot at them with a shotgun.  Their location was reported as northbound on STH 27 going toward USH 2 in the town of Brule.

Deputies arrived in the area but did not find the vehicles in question.  Evidence of the incident was located on Hwy 27 about .2mi east of Anderson Rd. including skid marks, broken glass, a shot gun and spent shotgun shell casings.

The reporting parties/victims were eventually located in Bayfield County east of Iron River.

The suspect was located in Ashland County, arrested and brought to the Ashland County Jail.  He was brought back to the Douglas County Jail on the afternoon of August 3.

The incident remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.  Charges against Gabriel Basner, 46, of Glidden are pending.
