The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Child Passenger Safety Program
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is committed to keeping children in our community safe by providing free Safety Seat Checks. Have your safety seat checked by a certified technician for the proper selection, use, and installation.
Car crashes are the leading cause of death and serious injury for children in the United States. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that 74 to 90 percent of child safety seats are being misused. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office took a proactive approach to protecting children in Douglas County and the surrounding areas by starting a Child Passenger Safety Program.
Deputy John Parenteau was certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician in 2000 and was certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician Instructor in 2002. He was soon affectionately nicknamed "Captain Car Seat" by his coworkers. Since then numerous professionals have been trained in the area and hundreds of child safety seats have been checked through this program.
The program continues today with partnerships with the Superior Police Department and the Superior Fire Department. Car seat checks are performed at check up events and by appointment. If you are having trouble installing your child's safety seat or if you just want to make sure you're doing it right call for an appointment today. Parents, Grandparents, and anyone who has the responsibility of transporting children are welcome to take advantage of this free program.
